Project notes

Designed as a modular public infrastructure for rural students and the elderly, this project explores the contemporary application of traditional joinery. The structure is generated from a three-dimensional cross-lock (Lu Ban Lock) system, where weather-resistant timber elements are interwoven and rotated to create a self-supporting frame.

By repeating and extending this modular tectonic unit, the design achieves an equilibrium between traditional Chinese aesthetics and the economic efficiency required for rural construction. The station is self-sustaining, utilizing a solar-integrated roof to power LED lighting, while its prefabricated mortise-and-tenon assembly ensures ease of maintenance.

This "small-scale intervention" demonstrates how sophisticated structural logic can enhance the daily commute and social safety of a rural community.
